Part of this class is meant to evolve the individual skills you have into solutions for the world. This project will be special for two reasons:
Firstly, you will have half this semester (about 2.5 months) to complete this assignment.
Secondly, there will only be 3 grades for this assignment which will be weighted up to x3. Two of which will be treated as pass fail (this means the only grades you can get for it a 0 or 100)
The world is full of problems and we need capable minds to solve them. I am asking you individually to create something beneficial for one of these three fields:
- Agriculture
- Education
- Construction
What you will create must be approved by me, but the only things that will be graded are as follows.
The Decision (PF) [Homework x2] Due February 2nd: You must choose one of the three fields and in a sentence or two specify where you would like to offer a solution or benefit within the field
*NOTE: this does not mean you must have your solution planned out only where you will be putting your efforts.
The Paperwork [Quiz x3] Due April 4th: Submit all paperwork you have used or created during the process of this assignment. (Your grade will be reflected by how well documented the process is, there are no specifics to this assignment but use previous assignments to your advantage)
The Project (PF) [Test x2] Due April 4th: This is the completed invention. It will be judged on whether it works and can give a benefit to the field/area you had specified at the start of the project.
Do not be fooled by the time. You are working primarily alone for this project and you have already seen what it is like for a time crunch. The stakes are higher so make some waves and get to work.

Due:
You can submit your sentences here regarding what you will be aiming to solve or where you aim to benefit in your respective field.
I will attempt to get all approvals out by the end of Thursday.
I want it to be clear that just submitting does not meet the on time ruling. It must be submitted on time and approved meaning, if you submit it Thursday and I am unable to view it till after the due time and I do not approve it. Your next submission will be counted as late.
If you do not submit anything by the appropriate time you will receive a zero for this assignment but you must still get an idea approved by me to officially begin work.

We have progressed so far with technology, but we need to understand our roots.
Primary Goal:
Choose an already existing device, machine, or piece of technology that was invented before 1900 and recreate it using current technology.
Requirements:
- This will be a full class project
- There must be some complexity to the design.
- Must be approved by Mr. Baran before work can begin
- Unless specified only ONE object or submission is required
- No, no one is allowed to work separately on their own *If you have a problem, either put it in the updates or let me know.*
Dates:
Technology Decision [Homework] (Due 01/04)
- Decide on the technology to re-create
Allocated Work [Quiz] (Due 01/09)
- Decide amongst each other who will be in charge of what during the project
Update [Homework x 2] (Due 01/12)
- Each member has individual update about the project //Both their work and about their partners
- Example Document will be provided
Design Documents [Project] (Due 01/18)
- This does not need to be written but labels are required //Only if elements require explanation an there be writing
- Submit all necessary sketches and images made during the project //These should not be rough sketches, only formal or final sketches
Update [Homework x 2] (Due 01/19)
- Each member has individual update about the project //Both their work and about their partners
Project Due [Test] (01/20)

*I had meant to create this assignment prior, but because I hadn't I am extending this to the end of the day*
Attached below is one example of a project update. Your project update should be identical, but in general the update should answer:
- How is your progress on the project and your specific tasks
- Are there any issues on your end
- If there are, do you have a solution or will this need to be discussed further
- How are each of your group members progressing with their tasks

Provide what will be worked on with the fan and required features that must work by the end of the project
Due:
You will be creating an ornament to put onto a tree. We can't create just any ornament though, it must be technical in someway and so we will make it shine.
[Create a hangable ornament that
- must utilize the electronics station
- must have a 3D element {This does not mean using the 3D printer, the ornament itself must be 3-Dimensional and not flat}
- One other machine must be used from the Fab-Lab
- The electronic portion must have an active element {activates on it's own, is toggleable, etc.}]
Rough Sketch due Nov. 30th [Homework]
- Enough to get the details, does not need measurements
Detailed Sketch due Dec. 2nd [Homework x2]
- Should include measurements and have pointers to explain portions
Design Document due Dec. 7th [Quiz]
- A detailed of the expected manufacturing process and what materials will be needed
Electronics Prototype due Dec. 12th [Project]
- A mock-up of the electronics done on a breadboard
Final Product due Dec. 19 [Test]
Presentation due Dec. 21 [Quiz]
- With the intention to sell the object create a 5 min. presentation (Can be pre-recorded or performed live but all presentations will be displayed this day)

So far we have been making due with only using one machine per project. Now we must branch out with the inclusion of two machines.
Create a step stool that is 10 inches high. Your goal is to prioritize weight and balance so that anyone can step onto it. The stool must incorporate two machines in it's creation.
Sketch due 11/15 [Homework]
- Measurements should be included and all parts should be diagramed
3D Model representation due 11/18 [Project]
- This should not be one complete 3d object it should be in parts oriented correctly
Stress Test due 11/21 [Quiz]
Final Design due 11/22 [Test]

After receiving the badges you had made, an interested 3rd party is considering mass producing them. However; they require 10 additional copies of badge. Please make sure to get these in at least 3 color variants by Thursday Nov. 10th
Due:
I think it is about time you reward yourselves for being able to make it past the first month of projects.
Create a badge for yourself themed after the FabLab.
- It should be something no larger than 2.5 x 2.5 inches
- The main body should be made using the 3D printer
- It can use the vinyl cutter but should not only be a sticker
Sketch Due Nov. 2nd
Final Design Due Nov. 4th

This project is here as a test for your precision. You will need to create a drawer for a cabinet I am building.
Each of your draws should have a total of 5 compartments where:
- 2 compartments should be large (approximately ~20 - 30% each)
- 3 compartments should be small (split between the remaining space)
Your drawer should have some type of additional feature (must be approved by me)
Important Info
- Full cabinet size [300mmx300mmx300mm]
- Size of wood squares [300mmx300mm]
- Thickness of wood [3mm]
Proposal for feature due October 18th -> something substantial to the drawer
Sketch Due October 19th -> Must include specific measurements of your design (Think Orthographic design)
Drawer Prototype Due October 21st
Feature Prototype Due October 25th
Final Submission Due October 28th

The students of Christ the King use and carry Chromebooks everyday. This has become a staple of the school but too often do students run into various issues with them. Your job is to create something that would be a helpful to have as an accessory for the Chromebooks. There are many things that already exist that would benefit Chromebook users so it is ok to use a pre-existing design, but add something that makes it somewhat unique.
Problem: In two weeks create something that could be used with, on, or by a Chromebook that would be an aide to the user.
Proposal due Oct. 4th [Homework]
Alterations due Oct. 7th [Homework]
- A list of any changes from the original proposal if any.
- If there are none, must submit "No changes being made" I then expect the device to do exactly what you promised.
Prototype due Oct. 11th [Project]
Write-Up due Oct. 13th [Quiz] -> can be submitted here
Final Design Due Oct. 14th [Test]
