Due:
I've attached the review sheet for the final exam that will take place on Monday, June 5th. This exam won't have a multiple choice section; instead, it will consist of definitions and essay questions. The definitions will ask you to recall some of the most important terms we spoke about this year, mostly movements or ideas. The essay questions will offer you options. You will be responsible for writing two open response essays on the exam, but you will be able to choose from about six essay topics.
I've attached a minimal study guide here to help you prepare. At the top, I've listed out the six major topics, but be aware that there might not be an essay question about each topic. The rest of the document here is a list of the major questions that I gave you to review before each of the tests since January.
I know the midterm was a bit too hard, so I've made this test slightly easier. If you have questions while you are reviewing, you can write me a private comment here or send me an email. Good luck preparing for the final major assessment of Global I!!!
Since we have four class days together after our final exam, there may be an opportunity for extra credit next week. Once I've graded the last tests and the finals, I will share that project with you.

Complete this extra credit assignment to ADD FIVE POINTS TO YOUR LAST TEST. I decided to be generous so this is due BEFORE CLASS on Monday, May 22.
The median grade was an 81, which means half of you scored 81 or higher. This makes me happy! However, a few of you really had a tough time with this test, so the average grade was a 74. This makes me sad... We have about a month together and you have the entire summer off, so push yourself to finish the year right!

On Friday, March 10th, we will have our next Global History test, which will focus on India and China before the 1500s. The test format will be similar to the exams that you've taken this year, with a blend of multiple choice, definitions, and short answer questions.
To prepare, you should review your notes. You can also consult our digital textbook and look at your homework assignments. Finally, you can check out the slideshow from the past two weeks, which I've attached here. I hope that this extra resource helps you all to do your best on Friday.
I will also be posting a study guide here with a list of important topics and a second document with some likely open response questions. We will spend time in class on Thursday reviewing these study guides.
Good luck preparing!

If you will like to receive 5-10 extra points on your recent test, you can complete this extra credit assignment by Wednesday, February 22.
When we return from Winter Break, we'll focus on India before moving on to China and other parts of Asia. For this assignment, you should do some online research about the Indian Subcontinent before 550 AD (550 CE); we will focus on India after this period, when Arabian and Muslim influences begin. The last time we discussed India was the Indus Valley Civilization, which existed there until about 1300 BC. You could consider describing politics, government, and warfare; art, music, literature, or other aspects of culture; religion; and/or the daily life of an average person. You'll find facts and info online, but you need to write a robust paragraph (12-15 sentences) in your own words.

When we return from Winter Break, we'll be moving our focus even further East to Asia (so we're not done with Genghis Khan just yet!). To prepare us for this next unit, I'm asking that you complete this short writing prompt during class time today. Your answer is your opinion, so there's no need to Google any information! Try to write 10-14 sentences. You can focus on one of these below questions or you can try to answer all four in your paragraph. There is no wrong way to do this, so make sure you submit something before the end of class for an easy homework grade.
Culture is the shared way of life of a group of people. It includes how people live, work, and play; their language, history, customs, and traditions; their religion and set of beliefs; their art and literature; and many other elements.
Here are some questions to help you think about what distinguishes different cultures.
What do you think makes American culture different from other cultures in the world? What are the most important differences?
What are some ways American culture is like other cultures?
What are some ideas, customs, and traditions that American culture has adopted from other cultures? What are some reasons that one culture borrows from another? How does this occur?
Are some values, beliefs, or ideas shared by all cultures?

As you guys wanted, I added the study guide today so that you can get a jump on studying. This document lists out all the relevant topics, and next week we'll look at some possible essay questions.
You will complete this guide for a homework grade next week; you do not have to answer or submit answers to the questions. Reviewing those questions will help you prepare. The exam will take place on Wednesday, February 15.

This will be due tomorrow at 5:00 PM. Work effectively in class so that you don't have more work for homework! We'll have another 15 minutes in class on Friday after we start reviewing for the text next week. You will notice this assignment is worth slightly more because it's longer.
Due:
If you took notes on your Chromebook this week, please upload them here. If you continued to use your history notebook, I will glance at your notes from the week during class time.
I think the Chromebooks were an excellent tool! If I see that you were using your laptops effectively, we can continue to type notes for the rest of the semester.

Due:
For extra credit this semester, you can answer the other essay question from the exam (answer the one that you didn't answer on the test). I've included both options and the original instructions below--be sure to start with a strong claim and write a full paragraph. If you'd like to receive extra credit, be sure to answer this question by tomorrow!
For the final section, choose one of the below questions and compose a paragraph that addresses each part of the prompt. Your first sentence should be a thesis statement, a strong and clear claim that responds to the question. Then you should include as facts and details to support your claim. You should conclude your short paragraph (10-14 sentences) with a summarizing statement. If you don't write enough, you are unlikely to get full credit for this question.
Option A: What is the legacy of ancient Greece and Rome? How did those civilizations continue to shape European history in the Middle Ages, and how do they impact our world today?
Option B: Why was feudalism such an important form of government in the Middle Ages? How did it begin, and why did it eventually fade? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this system?

Short Answer Questions: this section will ask you to write 2-4 sentences about a variety of topics from this year. The possible topics are listed on the first page of the study guide.
Essay Questions: one of the essays will be focused on the Medieval Era; look at the final section of the study guide to prepare for this essay.
