RELIGION TEXTBOOKS in Google Classroom

RELIGION TEXTBOOKS

Greetings, freshmen,

I made this an assignment just so that you would definitely see it.

First, congrats on finishing Freshman Religion!  I know this was a challenging course for many of you, but I hope you enjoyed learning about the Catholic faith and that our time together helped you develop your own religious convictions.  You're in that "adolescent stage" of religious formation where you're figuring out what you believe, and my goal was to give you a better understanding of your relationship with God and with His Creation.

Secondly, when you get a chance--this afternoon or next week--please drop off your Religion Textbooks to my classroom.  As I mentioned, I will hold on to these textbooks and return them to you at the beginning of the next school year.  In sophomore religion class, perhaps back in my classroom, you will work through the second half of this book.

Finally, a few of you are right on the borderline of passing or failing this half-year course.  When I finish grading the last few homework assignments, I will email you on Wednesday if you are less than three points away from passing.  I'll give you a short assignment to help you pass so that you don't have to take religion at summer school.

Enjoy your relaxing week ahead.

Sincerely,
Mr. Gallagher

FINAL TOMORROW in Google Classroom

FINAL TOMORROW

Thank you all for your hard work in the first half of the year.

Tomorrow is the final exam of our religion class.  Unlike most finals, this exam is NOT cumulative, meaning that it will not ask you information from the beginning of the year.  This exam instead asks you about the Liturgy (chapter 9) and the Sacraments (Chapters 10, 11, 12, and 13).  The last two guided note-taking documents are the BEST resource for you to study.  You should also review all of chapter 9 in the textbook; most of the important information is summarized on page 124.  To study the sacraments, use the guide but also look at pages 136, 146, 162, and 176.  You'll notice that the information in the Chapter Recaps is very similar to the information that you wrote in your guided notes.

On Tuesday, November 15, you will take the fourth and final exam of the first marking period.  To prepare for this exam, you should review pages 50-62 in your textbook, paying special attention to any sections that we underlined.  Page 62 includes a Recap, which is all important, and a Review, where you should focus on questions 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

You should also review the two homework assignments that we completed about Chapter Four.  You can find your work in Google Classroom.  You can also access the entire textbook posted page by page below.

Please write your answers to the following four questions (do not write the questions).  Use 1-2 sentences for each, and DO NOT copy from the textbook!  Answer using your own words.
1. Describe the childhood stage of faith.
2. Why is the adolescent stage of faith so challenging?  How can you overcome the challenges of that stage?
3. Why is free will such an important and challenging concept?
4. Explain how Loving Trust, Ongoing Effort, and Suffering Darkness play an important role on our journeys of faith.  Why are these concepts necessary for faith?
You may type your answers in Google Docs or Microsoft word and attach your document, or you may write your answers on a sheet of paper and take a photo to upload to my Google classroom.
