For this project you will be learning to work with oil pastels while creating a nighttime landscape scene. I will go through an example in class however, you are more than welcome to come up with your own idea. I will attach some examples below. Please sketch out your idea in your sketchbook and upload a picture here. Please make sure to include something in the foreground, middle ground, and background.

For this project we will be drawing shoes using contour lines. For this step you will upload a picture of the shoe you are going to draw.

upload both of your hand drawings from class today along with the drawings of line drawings from the worksheets. 

The purpose of this activity is to train yourself to draw lines, shapes, and curves rather than an eyes a nose and a mouth. This will help you to be able to draw more realistically. 

For the "upside down line drawing Picasso" you will be drawing this piece upside down. You will start at the top of the page by his legs and work your way down to his head. You will look at the lines and draw them as close as you can to the original. Think of this like you are piecing together a puzzle. 

For the "Mona Lisa Line Drawing" you will be doing the same thing except in a grid. You will recreate the grid in your sketchbook and draw this square by square. 

Once you are done please upload a photo to Google Classroom. 

For this activity we learned about how we can create emotion through art. In this case through lines. After going through the attached presentation please complete and attach a photo of the activity completed at the end of the presentation.

For your artist project you will be using the artist that you did your presentation on to give you inspiration for your own piece. You will take some aspect of their work whether it's the colors they use, their subject matter, the style that they draw in etc. and you will make it your own. For step 1 you will submit a sketch of your idea. 

*Remember we are not copying the artist's work. You are simply taking some aspect of their work to give you inspiration to create your own piece. *

For this project you will be creating a piece of artwork based on an artist that you will find through research. This artist should be someone you have never heard of before and was born in the more recent years. You will have full creativity on this project. When picking your artist make sure you know what aspects of their art you like that you will use in your piece. Please upload your presentation here. In your presentation you will include: 
Slide 1: The name of your artist along with a picture of them 
Slide 2-6: Please upload 5 of their artworks  
Slide 7: Please explain why you chose this artist/why you like their work

Now you will add branches to your painting. You will do this in pencil first and then paint over them using black. Then you will add the owl. Look at the attached images for directions.

Step 2: 
First, with an eraser, you will lighten your pencil lines. 
Now you will take white paint and paint your moon. 
After, you will take a little bit of blue paint and mix it into your white. You will use this to paint the first ring around the moon. 

Step 3: 
Now you will add more blue paint to the paint you were using to fill in the first ring around your moon and you will fill in the second ring around the moon. 
Continue adding blue paint as you paint each ring until you reach the edge of the page. The last ring should be a true blue.

Step 1

First, we will practice drawing the moon. Everyone will have their sketchbooks and we will go over how to get the most accurate circle. Then you will start by drawing a moon in the center of the paper that I have given you (This is your final draft paper). After, as we did with our echo flowers, you will leave space (about 2 inches) and draw an echo of the moon until you reach the edge of the paper. I have attached an example of what this should look like below. You must have at least 12 rings around your moon.

Open the link below, titled, The King Philosophy.  Via this website, read about Dr. King's Six Principles of Nonviolence.  After looking through the website, use your sketchbook and pencil to draw your idea for this art project.  Possible ideas include painting, drawing, photography, and various other art materials.  Use the Guidelines listed below. 


GUIDELINES

photography, painting, drawing, writing, sculpture etc. Artwork must be neatly matted for display purposes. If mailing,
paintings, matted drawings, and matted photographs should be no larger than 12" x 18" overall and should be mailed
flat rather than in poster tubes. Please note that due to space constraints, heavy 2-dimensional art and all 3-
dimensional art can ONLY be accepted online as a digital image.
• Please note that under Personally Identifiable Information (PII), which include protections for minors under law,
students’ names cannot be displayed online. Please remove student names from any images of their online
submissions.
PURPOSE
• To understand that January 17, 2023 commemorates the birthday of Dr. King and reminds all Americans of his dreams and
goals for this nation
• To have the opportunity to take part in the celebration of Dr. King’s birthday
• To reflect on ways to celebrate Dr. King’s birthday and legacy in everyday life
• To learn about the social, political, and economic factors that contributed to the civil rights movement
• To learn about the philosophy of nonviolence as practiced by Dr. King and to understand its relevance for today’s society
• To appreciate and respect the contributions and rights of others without regard to the similarities or differences they may
present

Here you will upload your final project. You will be graded on: 
- Is your entire page filled up?
- Did you outline the line? 
- Did you use three colors? 
- Did you use value to create dimension? 

Here you will upload your sketch for the optical Illusion project.

Step 1 - You will start with a curved line going across your page. (Step 1 below) 
Step 2 - Then you will draw different sized curves that start at the line and come up and go back down to the line. (Step 2 below) 
Step 3 - For this step you will match what you did, on top of the line, on the bottom of the line. (Step 3 below) 
Step 4 - For step 4 you will create guidelines. These are curved lines that will go to the top of the page, which will help you add to the illusion instead of drawing them straight up. 
Step 5 - Now you will fill in the entire page. 

In your sketchbook you will: 
Step 1 - Draw 6 90-degree triangles that overlap one another 
Step 2 - Label them on how light or dark their value will be using numbers. The more triangles that overlap in one area the darker the value will be. You will number them based on how many triangles are overlapping each other in an area of the triangle. 
Step 3 - Then you will shade in at least two triangles using the numbers that you wrote down and your value scale

Please look at the examples below.

Please find 5 artworks that you really like. You may use Google or Pinterest. You will upload an image of each to Google Classroom and then you will answer the following questions for each piece:
1. Who is the artist that created this?
2. What do you like about this piece?
3. what was this piece created for?

Please look up the artist Pablo Picasso. First you will write a paragraph about who Picasso is. Then you will find three of this artworks that you like. Upload the images to a Google Doc. Then for EACH piece you will write:

1. When this piece was created.
2. The name of the piece.
3. What he used to make it.
4. Why you chose it.

You should use full sentences and number 3 should be a few sentences.

You will be graded on how you follow directions so make sure to read them and include everything that is stated above.

Here you will upload a picture of your value scale. You must include: 
- 10 boxes 
- Every box should be shaded in
- 1 should be the lightest and 10 should be the darkest

For step 4 you will color in the echo lines you may do either a warm pattern or a cool pattern. You will alternate the colors for each line.

*If you do not have one of the colors just use the ones you do have*

For step three you will use your reference photo and you will color in the succulent. Once you are done you will submit a picture here before you color in the echo lines.

Here you will upload your sketch. For your sketch, you will draw out your succulent in the middle of your page. Don't make it too big so you have room for the echo. Then you are going to trace an outline of the succulent and leave about half an inch of space between the outline and the sketch of the succulent. You will continue to draw outlines until the lines fill up the entire page. Then you will upload a picture here.

Please look up the artist Wassily Kandinsky. First you will write a paragraph about who Kandinsky is. Then you will find three of this artworks that you like. Upload the images to a Google Doc. Then for EACH piece you will write:

1. When this piece was created.
2. The name of the piece.
3. What he used to make it.
4. Why you chose it.

Due October 19th
You will look up artists and choose one that you will write this assignment on. You will write about their background (where they come from) and what type of art they create. Then you will choose two of their artworks and answer the following questions:
1. What is the name of this piece?
2. What medium did the artist use to create it?
3. How does this piece make you feel?
4. Why did you choose this piece?

You can type this up on a google doc. You have until tomorrow to complete this.

Create a google doc and choose 5 logos. You will copy and paste the logo onto the google and write why you believe they chose that color for their company.

You will upload a picture of your sketch for the line project. Make sure you include as many different types of lines as you can!

Introduction:

The goal of this course is to develop awareness, understanding, and
appreciation for the Visual Arts. You will be introduced to the fundamentals of
art and make your own works of art using drawing and painting materials. In
this class, you will learn about different artists and their work. Lastly, it is
my hope that you will learn why people feel the need to create art and that you
will enjoy the process yourself.



Goals & Objectives:

1. Develop strong work habits and studio ethics.

2. Learn the mechanics of art-making.

3. Develop skill, proficiency, and discipline in workmanship and design.

4. Imaginative use of materials and methods to solve problems.



Course Requirements:

1. Students must listen to instructions.

2. Be in your assigned seat before the bell rings.

3. Attend all demonstrations, lectures, and critiques in person.

4. Complete all assigned studio projects.

5. Perform studio tasks and clean up after yourself.

6. Return all tools and materials back to their designated places.

7. Care for the studio and the equipment.

8. Use common-sense courtesy for all who work in our communal spaces.

9. Only four people at a time at the sink.

10. Respect the property of the school and classmates’ work.

11. Sign your work with your name and upload your work to Google Classroom.

12. Students are not allowed to leave the room without permission.
