You will be designing this slide in Google slides. You want your presentation to be visually interesting.

For this step you will be creating your logo. You will create a 6in x 6in art board. In your logo you will include: 
- The name of your account 
- A graphic that represents your company

Please go onto Pinterest and find 5 logos that are in the same category as the account you're running. Then you will put them onto a Google doc and upload it here. 

Please write down 10 different names for your account. Then narrow that down to five with the person next to you. Then choose your final name. 

Open the link below, titled, The King Philosophy.  Via this website, read about Dr. King's Six Principles of Nonviolence.  After looking through the website, use your sketchbook and pencil to draw your idea for this art project.  Possible ideas include painting, drawing, photography, and various other art materials.  Use the Guidelines listed below.  Remember*** this is just a rough draft.  Your rough draft should include descriptions and drawings of your idea. Lastly, take a photo of your rough draft idea and attach to this assignment.  Worth 15 pts.  



GUIDELINES
• Distribute to students Dr. King’s Six Principles and Six Steps of Nonviolence. They can be found by following this link:

photography, painting, drawing, writing, sculpture etc. Artwork must be neatly matted for display purposes. If mailing,
paintings, matted drawings, and matted photographs should be no larger than 12" x 18" overall and should be mailed
flat rather than in poster tubes. Please note that due to space constraints, heavy 2-dimensional art and all 3-
dimensional art can ONLY be accepted online as a digital image.
• Encourage students to create artwork based on one or more of Dr. King’s principles and/or to write an essay examining
the ways in which they can celebrate Dr. King’s birthday all year long. Student essays traditionally focus on core ideas
of social justice and Nonviolence. Essays should be one page in length, whether typed or handwritten. If mailing, please
submit essays in a plastic sleeve.
• Please note that under Personally Identifiable Information (PII), which include protections for minors under law,
students’ names cannot be displayed online. Please remove student names from any images of their online
submissions.
PURPOSE
• To understand that January 17, 2023 commemorates the birthday of Dr. King and reminds all Americans of his dreams and
goals for this nation
• To have the opportunity to take part in the celebration of Dr. King’s birthday
• To reflect on ways to celebrate Dr. King’s birthday and legacy in everyday life
• To learn about the social, political, and economic factors that contributed to the civil rights movement
• To learn about the philosophy of nonviolence as practiced by Dr. King and to understand its relevance for today’s society

Now you are going to be tasked with figuring out who your target audience is. You will write down general information about them. Please include:

For step one you will start to think about what type of Instagram account you will be running.

You will be creating a Christmas card. Your card will be 5x8in. You must include:
• Text
• Color
• Images

Once you have chosen the sketch that you are going to use you will transfer it to canva. You will create a new design and type in menu for your artboard. For this project you will include: 
- Your menu items 
-  Prices for the Items 
- The logo for your restaurant 

You will be graded on: 
- Did you include all of the necessary information? 
- Did you design the menu? 
- Your participation during the project.

Here you will submit two sketches for your menu. Then you will choose which one you will use for your project.

Here you will submit your logo with corrections that were given to you. 

For step 2 you will find 10 different menus that you will use as inspiration for this project. You will find 5 menus that are the same as your restaurant and five menus that can be any type of restaurant. Upload them to a Google doc. Do not use popular restaurants that you are familiar with. 

For this step you will come up with at least 10 items for your menu. Cover the following categories: 
Drinks
Appetizer 
Main dish 
Dessert

Please find 5 artworks that you really like. You may use Google or Pinterest. You will upload an image of each to Google Classroom and then you will answer the following questions for each piece:
1. Who is the artist that created this?
2. What do you like about this piece?
3. what was this piece created for?

Please look up the artist Pablo Picasso. First you will write a paragraph about who Picasso is. Then you will find three of this artworks that you like. Upload the images to a Google Doc. Then for EACH piece you will write:

1. When this piece was created.
2. The name of the piece.
3. What he used to make it.
4. Why you chose it.

You should use full sentences and number 3 should be a few sentences.

You will be graded on how you follow directions so make sure to read them and include everything that is stated above.

For step four you will transfer your sketch onto the computer.

- Then you will go to Canva. 
- You will click create a design. 
- Then in the search bar you will type in logo and choose the first option. 
- Then you will start to transfer your design from your sketch onto Canva. 


You will be graded on: 
1. Did you take inspiration from your sketch? 
2. Did you include the name of your restaurant? Did you include a graphic? 
3. Is it visually interesting? 
4. Is it one condensed logo that can be transferred onto different things. (No real images, no background images, everything is together and not spread out around the page, etc..) 

Now you will be drawing out two different logo ideas for your restaurant. You may do this in your sketchbook. Once you are done you will upload your sketches here. 

Please look up the artist Kate Moross. First you will write a paragraph about who she is. Then you will find three of her artworks that you like. Upload the images to a Google Doc. Then for EACH piece you will write:

1. What was the first thing in the piece that grabbed your attention?
2. Did she use any of the color patterns we learned about?
3. Did she use the design rules we’ve learned about so far? (keeping the text away from the edges of the page, making sure if the piece is to get information across to someone that all of the text is easy to read etc…)
4. What could you take from this to use in your own work?

You should use full sentences they should be at least a few sentences each.

Now you will go on Google or Pinterest and find 5 different RESTAURANT logos that you think are designed well and are going to use as inspiration. 

Then underneath each one, you will write why you liked that design.

This is the restaurant project. First, you will come up with the type of food you would like to serve (Italian food, Mexican food, Caribbean food, etc...) 
• Then you will write down the first 10 things that come to your mind when you think of the type of restaurant
      ex: If you are opening an Italian restaurant you may write down things like... cheesy, doughy, amour, slice, etc...
• Then you will come up with 5 different names using the words you just came up with for your restaurant.
• Lastly, you will choose the final name that you think is the best choice. 

First, you will find 5 different logos. You may look these up on Google. Do not choose more than two logos with the same color. 

Next, you will put pictures of them on a google doc with an explanation of why you think the company chose those colors based on what we just learned USING THE CHART THAT IS ATTACHED TO THIS ASSIGNMENT. 

Then you will submit this to Google Classroom.

Here you will upload your finished poster with the corrections that were given to you in class.

You will each present your sketches to your group. Your group will choose which of your sketches they like the most. Then you will write down 2 things your group said you can improve on and 1 thing that they liked about your project.

List the responsibilities associated with being a graphic designer– what does a typical job description include? Than you will research and write down 5 different types of graphic design and in a few sentences please describe what they are.

Choose 5 pieces of graphic design based on what we discussed in class. You will upload them to a Google doc and explain under each why you chose it and what you think makes it good graphic design. 

Introduction:

The goal of this course is to introduce you to the art of Graphic Design. You
will be introduced to the fundamentals of graphic design and learn to use design programs.
In this class, you will learn about different artists and their
work. Lastly, it is my hope that you will learn why people feel the need to
create art and that you will enjoy the process yourself.
